A Workshop Built Around the Work

Tickvane has operated from Jalan Tun Razak since 2009. We keep the scope narrow: quartz battery changes, water resistance checks and chronograph overhauls, done carefully, with a written record on every docket.

Our Story

How Tickvane came to be — and what has stayed the same.

Tickvane opened on Jalan Tun Razak in 2009, at a time when most service centres in Kuala Lumpur were attached to retailers and handled repairs as an afterthought. The founding idea was simpler: a dedicated bench operation where the technician who opens your watch is the same person who closes it, and where every job produces a paper record the owner can keep.

The name is a compression of two watchmaking terms — the tick of an escapement and the vane of a balance wheel — held together to reflect what the workshop does: keep precision mechanisms moving as they were designed to.

Over the years the scope has stayed deliberate. We service quartz movements, test and reseal cases against moisture, and overhaul complicated chronograph calibres. We do not offer polishing, bracelet resizing or strap changes as stand-alone services. The work that stays on the bench is the work the team has done consistently for fifteen years.

The workshop serves private owners across the Klang Valley — people who have bought a watch they want to keep running well, or who have inherited a piece and want to understand its current condition before wearing it. Most enquiries begin with a short description of what the owner has noticed: the watch stopped, the crown feels different, the chronograph hand does not reset cleanly.

That description shapes the service conversation. We do not quote work without first understanding the piece, and we do not begin work without agreement on scope. The docket produced at the end of each job is the record of what was agreed, what was done, and what the technician noted along the way.

The location on Jalan Tun Razak was chosen for accessibility. KLCC interchange is a short walk, and owners from across Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya and the Klang Valley find it a straightforward stop on a working day.

The Team

A small bench team — each member focused on a specific type of work.

ZA

Zulkifli Ariff

Lead Technician

Zulkifli has worked on mechanical calibres for over eighteen years. He handles chronograph overhauls and complex movement assessments. His rate charts set the baseline every service is measured against.

NR

Nur Rahimah

Quartz & Pressure Testing

Nur Rahimah manages battery and seal renewals and runs the workshop's pressure testing station. She has developed a methodical approach to gasket selection that keeps rework rates low.

HI

Hafiz Iskandar

Workshop Coordinator

Hafiz manages intake, docket preparation and client communication. Owners describe what they noticed and he translates that into a clear service brief before the watch reaches the bench.

Our Working Standards

The practices that govern how work is carried out and recorded on every job.

Documented Docket on Every Job

Parts fitted, test readings and technician observations are written up before the watch leaves the bench. The docket goes to the owner with the piece.

Pressure Testing on Every Sealed Case

A dry pressure check at 3 bar is run after any battery or gasket work. Cases that fall outside tolerance are re-opened and corrected before collection.

Scope Agreement Before Work Begins

No work starts without the owner's understanding of what is to be done and what it will cost. Surprises on collection are not part of how Tickvane operates.

Calibre-Matched Gasket Selection

Gaskets are matched to the case and calibre specification, not sourced from a universal kit. Dimensional accuracy is recorded on the docket.

Rate Charts on Complex Work

Chronograph overhauls include a six-position rate chart taken before and after the service, providing a measurable baseline for the work performed.

Secure Handling During Bench Time

Each piece is tagged on intake and stored in a designated bench slot throughout its service period. No pieces share trays or handling surfaces.

Watch Repair in Kuala Lumpur — What Sets a Good Bench Apart

A watch that keeps accurate time and holds its water resistance does so because of small, regular interventions at the right intervals. Cells in quartz movements have a rated lifespan; gaskets harden and compress over years of wear and temperature change; chronograph mechanisms develop wear patterns at the same points on every calibre. None of these conditions become visible until a problem appears — which is why a periodic bench visit, rather than waiting for a stoppage, is the more practical approach.

Tickvane's position in Jalan Tun Razak places it within easy reach of owners across the city and the Klang Valley. The workshop handles three types of bench work — battery and seal renewal for quartz pieces, structured water resistance testing with corrective re-sealing, and full overhauls for chronograph calibres — and the scope is kept to those three because they reflect the work the team has done consistently for fifteen years.

The documentation that accompanies each job matters as much as the technical work itself. An owner who receives a watch back with a written note on cell type, gasket specification and pressure reading has something to keep on file. When the piece comes in again in two or three years, that record provides context that verbal handovers cannot.

For chronograph owners, the rate chart produced at the end of an overhaul is the most useful document the workshop produces. It records how the movement performed across six positions before and after service — data that is relevant not only to daily wear but to long-term calibre condition tracking.
